Growing Skills
gardens are a living means to enrich and extend learning for a sustainable futureā¦
The garden is a particularly rich site for educating for sustainability. It is a natural laboratory, a living workshop and a perfect example of how sustainability can be achieved. In the garden all the different facets of sustainability can be observed and examined within the cycles, creativities and intricacies of nature. As well as working directly with schools and communities in the garden, we can also assist with developing skills that will help you realise the full teaching and learning possibilities; as well as productivity potential. We offer community workshops in permaculture systems and urban gardening throughout South-East Queensland. We also run a Professional Development program that assists teachers to plan teaching and learning experiences in the garden, and integrate sustainability concepts and practices into the curriculum.
Learning in the Garden seminar
Every year, Growing Communities organises the inspiring and highly popular Learning In The Garden seminar, where educators from a variety of professional and non-professional fields get together to learn, share and discuss ideas while learning about innovations and trends in school gardens.
Grapevine Network
Growing Communities also networks on a regular basis with Queensland schools through the Grapevine network; nationally, through the Australian school garden network and internationally, through the World Garden Project.
